New Chances - 19 - 24 NEET

New funding opportunity for third sector organisations across Southern England to deliver short programmes to 19 - 24 year olds not in education, employment or training.

Research shows that young people who are persistently NEET and below level 2 may also face other unfavourable conditions including:

  • adverse family circumstances
  • traumatic events
  • personality / behavioural difficulties
  • learning disabilities
  • disaffection with school
  • health problems
  • being in care
  • crime
  • drug abuse
  • homelessness
  • poverty

19-24 year old NEET young people may be particularly disaffected and disengaged having had a longer experience of underachievement and lack of success.

Research also shows that one-to-one support, ongoing Information Advice and Guidance (IAG), and programmes offering Additional Learning Support are effective at helping those with multiple and entrenched barriers to learning and work.

Funding being made available is to focus upon NEETs across England and at The Learning Curve we are focusing on supporting delivery partners in Southern England. Its scope is:

  • for young people NEET aged 19-24
  • to engage those without a full level 2
  • to put in place a combination of flexible learning
  • pathways and other additional learning support
  • mechanisms to help engage and retain them through
  • the progression to level 2/3 learning and employment including apprenticeships

Funding is for programmes that will be completed by 31st July 2012
