Leading Creativity in Social Care

'Leading Creativity in Social Care' is a unique training course for social care workers, activity coordinators, day centre facilitators, youth and community leaders ,enabling them to use their own creativity to facilitate activities with their clients. Employers all over the world are beginning to understand the power of creativity to maximise the contribution their staff can give. Course participants learn – • considerations in leading groups, • observation and listening skills, • review and evaluation methods, • health and safety procedures… The Course introduces lots of new material participants are given art, craft, music and drama skills. In addition, they are challenged to think, reflect and keep records of their work: • Creating a diary • Learning mapping techniques for recording • Learning planning strategies for running sessions • Leading groups and discussions • Assessing and evaluating their work The strongest teaching element of the course is taking part in discussions. The course runs over 23 weeks for 3 hours a week, practical assignments are given to take back to the workplace so the workplace feel the benefits of sending staff immediately. A fee of only £175 is charged for this course (for staff- Volunteers working in a care setting can access the course for free). The course aims to: • Encourage learners to discover their own creativity, using activities that are fun and build confidence • Gives care staff (and managers) a wide range of practical skills to enable them to work creatively with their clients • Recognises and acknowledge the value of creativity, demonstrating that it is not the preserve of ‘artists’ • Provides a formal qualification (OCN level 1, 2 or 3) • Teaches care staff to develop their own way of supporting all aspects of their • professional practice through keeping diaries and portfolios, using mapping techniques, practicing leadership skills and group working, with clear assessment and evaluation
