In February and March 2004, The Learning Curve was involved in a project on behalf of the Learning and Skills Council, known as E2E or ‘Entry to Employment’. This project was intended to benefit young people aged 16 – 18 who have few or no formal qualifications, and needed support to help them into the world of work.
The project involved working with training providers such as Wiltshire College, Taurus Skills and Protocol Skills, and finding voluntary organisations in Wiltshire and Swindon who offered placements or services to young people.
The Learning Curve recruited several consultants to work intensively on finding these placement opportunities, and to coordinate the workshops held at the end of March 2004.
The successful ‘Entry to Employment’ Young People Workshops were held in Swindon, Salisbury and Trowbridge. About 70 people attended the workshops including E2E Training Providers, Connexions, Voluntary Sector Organisations, Community Groups and various speakers offering initiatives incorporating young people. The speakers included representatives from CEED – Positive Action Training, Kandu Arts, the Prince’s Trust and the National Trust.
It was a fantastic opportunity for the Voluntary Organisations and Community Groups to network and they discussed new ideas and shared thoughts about what they might be able to offer a young person, and the benefits this would bring to Wiltshire and Swindon.
The result of these workshops and research was a fresh and exciting Directory entitled ‘Working Together for Young People’ which listed the details of E2E Training Providers and the Charities and Community Groups offering services, support and/or placements. This valuable resource contained the details of over 100 organisations, is still available to view below:
